Just as South Africa’s amazing wines deserve more attention, so does this invigorating musical set in the 19th century Caribbean islands. Gene Kelly plays the swashbuckling title character that woos the beautiful Judy Garland – while singing and dancing, of course. With several stunning musical sequences (scored by Cole Porter) this movie will win you over just like the whimsical, citrusy, ripefruit character in this delicious white wine.

THE WINE

Travel to the heart of South Africa’s gorgeous Stellenbosch region, and at the end of your trek (a 21-hour flight from the U.S.), you’ll find the Gabb family’s aptly-named estate, Journey’s End. Renowned writer Jancis Robinson calls their Chardonnay an “excellent value,” and we’d say the same of this new exclusive, a blend of South Africa’s star white, Chenin Blanc (80%) and aromatic Viognier (20%). THE ESTATE

Founded in 1996, Journey’s End is the type of small, quality-driven operation that’s putting South Africa on the fine wine map – with acclaim from top shows like the International Wine Challenge and the Decanter World Wine Awards to prove it. Winemaker Leon Esterhuizen, whose experience includes harvests at Napa Valley’s Chappelle Estate and Spain’s Bodegas Castaño, has been working his magic in the cellar since 2005.

WITH FOOD

When paired with apricot-laden Viognier (another French original) it makes very aromatic, round-textured whites. This one would be tasty with equally aromatic foods (think Thai or Indian), savory white meats or strong-flavored cheeses.
