Audrey Hepburn lights up the screen once again in this stylish musical set in Paris. With the legendary Fred Astaire costarring as a fashion photographer who brings Hepburn’s unknown to stardom, and real-life photographer Richard Avedon as a visual consultant, this Gershwin-infused musical goes perfectly with a freshfruited and mouthwatering French rosé.

THE WINE

Everyone knows Bordeaux’s rich, age-worthy reds. But many top winemakers in the region also love crafting rosé – fresh-fruited, mouthwatering and meant to be enjoyed in its juicy youth. Usually, these premium pinks are given to neighbors and friends, so it’s something of a local secret. But as our customer, you get special access to these sorts of rare finds. Last vintage, this cherry-packed Cabernet-Merlot rosé won a gold medal from Gilbert & Gaillard. We think the fresh 2016 release is equally lovely.

THE WINEMAKER

Son of leading wine merchant Tony Laithwaite, Henry Laithwaite is really making a name for himself on the international wine scene. After learning the ropes at a boutique Australian estate (and earning 90+ points from Robert Parker), he returned to France and began making wines in the Castillon region of Bordeaux. He’s enjoyed growing acclaim ever since, including kudos from Decanter, who called his Château Verniotte “an estate to watch.”

THE ESTATE

Château de Colombe is a fairly new venture for the Laithwaites. It’s in Castillon, a go-to region for Bordeaux fans seeking Cru Classé quality at a friendlier price. Consult a map and you’ll see why: Castillon is next-door to celebrated Saint-Emilion. The estate is right by the Laithwaites’ original property, Château La Clarière, whose wines were recently served to the Queen of England at a state dinner.

WITH FOOD

Henry cold-fermented the Cab and Merlot, to lock in each variety’s super-fresh, red-fruit flavors. That vibrant fruit, plus this wine’s herbal and floral notes, make this a fine match for a variety of foods. Enjoy with crisp salads or your favorite French cheeses – Henry suggests buttery, nutty Comté or cheese-driven tartes and quiches. It’s also tasty with grilled chicken and fish.
