Marx Brothers White Blend 2017
California

A Day at the Races (1937)
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 22 @ 08:00 AM (ET)

In this MGM-produced comedy, Groucho, Harpo, and Chico hatch a plan to save a sanitarium from bankruptcy. But the story and several original songs are really secondary to the film’s many gags – the vaudeville tradition from which this classic comedy team hails. Like the various grapes in this luscious white blend, the Marx brothers each brought their own style and flavor to create a harmonious – and zany – whole.

THE WINE

The Marx Brothers are one of the most iconic comedy teams of Hollywood’s Golden Age. Their films have kept audiences laughing for over a century, and like a fine wine, they only get better with age. Just as each brother brings his own magic to the ensemble, the different grapes in this luscious white blend (led by French native Colombard) each contribute their own distinctive character. Crafted by talented winemaker Doug Roosevelt and showing all the ripe-fruited charm of the superb 2017 vintage, this limited release bursts with zesty lime and juicy apple flavors.

THE WINEMAKER

Doug Roosevelt grew up with a passion for wine – his father was an avid collector and their family spent weekends touring vineyards in Napa. After the birth of his son, Doug decided to make his passion his profession. He left a successful career in the medical industry to complete the prestigious UC Davis Winemaking Certificate Program, and has been making world-class wines like this ever since.

THE VINTAGE

VY_California_sunriseThe good news keeps on coming for fans of California wine. Following a string of fantastic years from 2012 to 2016, the Golden State had another great harvest in 2017. After years of drought, the vines were replenished by much-needed winter rains before enjoying a long, hot summer that ripened the fruit to perfection. Wine Enthusiast says it best: “California’s 2017 vintage is excellent.”

WITH FOOD

asian_veggiepotWith its citrusy, fruity character, this vibrant California white can stand up to mildly spicy dishes. Try it alongside Asian-style noodle bowls, chicken tacos with a mango-based salsa, or even classic ceviche. Speaking of seafood, this will also be a winner with grilled shrimp, baked white fish, steamed lobster, and more. And, of course, it makes a refreshing aperitif too.
