Ridgerider Cellars Chardonnay 2015
Central Coast, California

North by Northwest (1959)
MONDAY, DECEMBER 25 @ 10:00 PM (ET)

Alfred Hitchcock’s North by Northwest has it all. Cary Grant’s wrong-man story is the perfect blend of action, comedy, and romance, capped by a thrilling finale on Mt. Rushmore. It’s best accompanied by this enticing wine that has something for everyone – apple, pear, warm vanilla, and a hint of oak.

THE WINE

Recent superb vintages have sent quality in California through the roof. We’re thrilled to bring you the latest release of this lush, orchard-fruited Chardonnay, which debuted to silver-medal acclaim in San Francisco. It’s a delicious collaboration between the Miller family and their talented winemaker, Richard Shelton. Richard sourced the grapes from sustainably farmed Central Coast sites – with a focus on premium San Luis Obispo county – and harvested the Chardonnay in the cool of the night to retain freshness. In the cellar, barrel fermentation (a quality technique used in the production of many world-class whites like this) adds a ripe, round mouthfeel and toasty vanilla notes to the final wine.

THE GRAPE

Chardonnay is the world’s most popular white grape, due to its attractive, mouthfilling flavors and ability to grow well in a range of climates. It performs most majestically (and expensively) in the vineyards of Chablis and Côte d’Or in France’s Burgundy region, but it also thrives in sunny California.

THE FAMILY

VY_California_Central-Coast_26One of the pioneers of California wine, the Miller family have farmed land along the Central Coast for five generations. They planted their first vineyards in 1973 and today own some of the most coveted plots in all of California (including the famed Bien Nacido vineyard). Their operation is still 100% family owned, and they take their legacy of excellence very seriously – as you’ll taste here.

WITH FOOD

chee_manchegoandmarconaalmondsAlma Andina is uplifting on its own and also great with Latin food – especially if seafood is involved. Steve’s favorite match is a mouthwatering ceviche. Need a vegetarian option? Torrontés has a wonderfully crisp quality, which means it will go nicely with all manner of vegetable dishes. We tried (and loved) black bean dip with queso fresco.
