Pour a glass of refreshing Vermentino and turn on this classic slapstick comedyfrom the Marx brothers. Their second MGM feature finds Groucho, Harpo andChico in a plot to save a sanitarium from being repossessed and turned into acasino by a wealthy banker. As silly as that sounds, its lively tone is just the thingfor the zingy citrus notes of this crisp Italian white.

THE WINE

Tuscan star Sofia Barbanera (below) is the talentedwinemaker behind our hugely popular, best-selling Saracosa red. Now, she’s crafted her first Saracosa white – an exclusive, mouthwatering Vermentino. Named for the Saracosa hill, a site ofancient sun worship and the spot where Sofia’s ancestors tendedthe family’s Vermentino vines, this irresistible white brims with brightorchard fruit, zingy citrus and savory herb aromas and flavors. Withhints of sea air and fine minerality, it makes for a refreshing aperitifor a delightful match to crisp salads.

THE GRAPE

Vermentino thrives in Tuscany’scoastal vineyards. As critic Antonio Galloni writes, “themost successful white wines of the Tuscan coast areundoubtedly those made with native grape variet[y]Vermentino.” With its intense, fruity/herbal aromas, tantalizingly fresh acidity and saline minerality, we’repredicting it’ll soon be as popular as Pinot Grigio.Taste for yourself and let us know what you think!

THE ESTATE

The Barbanera family have made delicious winesat their Tuscan estate since 1938. Today, siblings Marco, Paolo(Sofia’s dad) and Simona are at the helm, but a new generation isgearing up to one day take the reins. Sofia’s been under the tutelageof the Barbanera’s highly acclaimed winemaker, Mario Ercolino. He’staught her everything he knows (including the techniques he uses todraw out maximum perfume and elegance from grapes).

WITH FOOD

With its bright fruit flavors, notesof herb and crisp minerality, Saracosa will make fora mouthwatering aperitif. I’ll also pair well withentrée salads like Cobb (with or without whitemeats). At dinner time, serve it with oven-bakedtilapia, roasted chicken or grilled pork tenderloin –they’ll all be especially delicious when seasonedwith lemon, garlic and rosemary.
