Stonewall Sauvignon Blanc 2017
Marlborough, New Zealand

Mutiny on the Bounty (1935
SUNDAY, DECEMBER 17 @ 06:00 AM (ET)

This lavish MGM production – and huge box office hit – stars Clark Gable and Charles Laughton as onscreen rivals in a classic adventure tale inspired by the true story of the HMS Bounty. Set in the South Pacific, not far from the home of this vibrant Sauvignon Blanc, it calls for a wine of exciting fruit flavors and earthy freshness. Like the Marlborough region, this film more than earns its acclaim.

THE WINE

France’s Sancerre may be Sauvignon’s spiritual home, but for modern vibrancy, Marlborough is the place to head – and nobody does it better than the pioneering Dr. John Forrest. A previous vintage of his Stonewall scooped a coveted gold medal in China and Silver Outstanding from the International Wine & Spirit Competition: “Aromas of passion fruit, gooseberry, cut grass, and mineral … excellent precision and poise.” Here’s the 2017 release, complete with the same intensity of flavor.

THE WINEMAKER

Dr. John Forrest is a pioneer of the Golden Mile – Marlborough’s original and best vineyard strip. Located in the sub-region of Rapaura, it boasts optimum wine-growing conditions and is home to some of the country’s oldest and most famous vineyards. This special white is named for the walled entrance to John’s beautiful estate, built from the Wairau River stones (seen below, along with John) that help to give Marlborough’s best wines their signature, mouthwatering mineral notes.

THE REGION

WM_JohnForrest_riverTwenty years ago, few wine lovers had heard of Marlborough, let alone tried its wines. Today, this remote and beautiful part of the world is internationally acclaimed for its racy Sauvignon Blanc. Marlborough is bright, yet cool, and holds the title for New Zealand’s sunniest and driest region. These factors undoubtedly contribute to the wine’s tropical ripeness … as you’ll soon taste.

WITH FOOD

shell_greenlippedmussels_sauteedZippy whites like Stonewall are an ideal match for creamy cheeses (goat cheese or Brie) and fresh shellfish (green-lipped mussels with garlic are a local specialty). It also makes a mouthwatering aperitif. And like nearly all of New Zealand’s finest Sauvignon, Dr. Forrest’s wines are bottled under screwcap, which helps retain their freshness and intensity.
