TCM Classic Film Festival Cabernet Sauvignon 2017
California

Gone with the Wind (1939)
SUNDAY, APRIL 14 @ 08:00 PM (ET)

Celebrating its 80th anniversary in 2019, David O. Selznick’s Civil War-set epic was also the first film ever shown on Turner Classic Movies. Though its naïve depiction of the antebellum South draws its share of criticism today, there’s no denying the film’s impressive scope and sheer beauty resulting from this big-budget adaptation’s roster of A-list craftsmen working at the height of Hollywood’s golden age. As cinematic spectacle, Gone with the Wind is a triumph.

THE WINE

Celebrating its 10th year in 2019, the TCM Classic Film Festival honors the movies and talent that made Hollywood magic, with a handpicked selection of unforgettable films. Raise a glass to the silver screen with this limited-release Cabernet Sauvignon. Hailing from sunny California and the superb 2017 vintage, it showcases everything that’s wonderful about California Cabernet: rich, black-fruit flavors, firm tannins, and a long, velvety finish. Enjoy your bottle with good food, great friends, and a classic film (see over for our recommendations).

THE GRAPE

Cabernet is the king of the reds, loved for its deepcolored, black currant-rich wines. Most famously, it’s the variety that powers Bordeaux’s legendary first growths, like Château Lafite and Château Margaux. However, you’ll also discover plenty of worldclass examples in California. The best known (and expensive) Cabs come from the Napa Valley and Sonoma, but you’ll find examples of serious flavor and value all across the Golden State.

THE VINTAGE

VY_US_California_AlexanderVllyThe good news keeps on coming for fans of California wine. Following a string of fantastic years from 2012 to 2016, the Golden State had another great harvest in 2017. After years of drought, the vines were replenished by much-needed winter rains before enjoying a long, hot summer that ripened the fruit to perfection. Wine Enthusiast says it best: “California’s 2017 vintage is excellent.”

WITH FOOD

burg_openfacecloseupSpeaking of classic, Cabernet Sauvignon is the classic match for beef. Serve this rich blockbuster with anything from juicy burgers to grilled steaks to beef tenderloin. If you’re a vegetarian (or watching your red meat intake), you’ll be happy to know that this bold Cab will also delight with meatless meals, such as mushroom ‘burgers,’ hearty pastas, or vegetable-based chilis or stews.
