And thanks to the exceptional 2015 vintage – "a year to remember for Pinot Grigio," he raves – this is ultra-fresh and fruity. Look forward to enticing orchard fruit aromas, supported by trademark almond notes. Peach and pear star on the palate, leading to hints of citrus fruit and mineral on the long, crisp finish – this is a seriously classy aperitivo, and also pairs deliciously with all kinds of fare (see over for inspiration).

THE REGION

regionThe locals describe their mountain ringed vineyards as aria condizionata ('air-conditioned') – this cooling influence from the Alps and the Adriatic Sea are ideal for locking in fresh, pure fruit flavors. The Venezie region includes the regions of Veneto, Friuli- Venezia Giulia and Trentino-Alto Adige and while Pinot Grigio is by far the most-planted variety, other grapes like Glera (used in Prosecco) also thrive here.

WITH FOOD

With its lovely citrus, pear, subtle almond and enticing spice flavors, this classic Pinot Grigio is delicious with crudités, linguine with fresh shaved Parmesan, or crispy calamari (which Alessandro tells us is one of his favorites). It's also a natural match for salads. You can also enjoy it on its own, as a perfectly refreshing aperitif – or, aperitivo, if you’re feeling extra Italian!
