SATURDAY, MAY 30 @ 01:30 PM (ET)

Chenin Blanc can offer a full range of flavors depending on how it’s prepared, whether sweet, dry, or sparkling. It’s one of the reasons that it pairs so well with this classic movie, which offers viewers a full range of expression including romance, drama, and action. Revered today as it was on release, Montgomery Clift earned his third Academy Award nomination for the role of Private Prewitt (one of thirteen in total earned by the film).

One of Hollywood’s original method men, Montgomery Clift cut a dashing but ultimately tragic figure. Never achieving the fame of contemporaries Brando and Dean, he’s best remembered for his Academy Award-nominated performance in 1951’s A Place in the Sun. Often overlooked in favor of more starry names, Chenin Blanc is a versatile white. This fine example hails from California’s premium Santa Barbara County and offers expressive floral aromas and luscious dried apple and peach flavors.

Though the name Torrontés is used to describe several distinct grape varieties in Spain, this Torrontés grape is unique to Argentina. And if Malbec is the country's King of Reds, Torrontés is surely its Queen of Whites. Critic Tom Cannavan writes: "Torrontés is a white wine grape that makes terrifically fragrant, perfumed-yet-rich, fruity wines with crisp acidity."

GI_grapes_chardonnaySanta Barbara County has a much longer farming history than it does winemaking – the region’s earliest vines were planted in the 1960s. After the success enjoyed by Firestone in the ’70s, the total number of acres under vine boomed. Today, about 24,000 acres are dedicated vineyard space. The area’s moderate temperatures result in longer grape “hang time.” This extended period ripening on the vine creates serious depth and complexity of flavor – on full display here, thanks to the fantastic 2018 vintage.

shell_lobstertail_corncob_summeryWith its perfumed floral aromas and luscious fruit flavors, this Chenin Blanc makes a lovely aperitif. It also has the weight to stand up to richer seafood dishes, such as buttery lobster tail or creamy chowders. Alternatively, enjoy it with grilled chicken or roasted turkey (topped with a creambased sauce), or try hearty vegetarian dishes like butternut squash ravioli or sweet potato casserole.
