Here’s a ripe, citrus-packed Chardonnay from the House of Morin Père et Fils, who have been making fine, highly sought-after Burgundy since 1822. For this specialrelease white, the family headed south to the famed Hérault district near France’s Mediterranean coast. One taste and you’ll be glad they did. Crafted in the traditional Burgundian method, this is a real treat in the glass, delivering melon, peaches, and crisp apple flavor, along with delicate vanilla notes.


Chardonnay performs most majestically (and expensively) in the vineyards of Burgundy’s Chablis and Côte d’Or – but it also thrives in southern France. Depending on the site (and the ambitions of the winemaker), it can be rich and buttery or refreshing and citrusy. In addition to being a multifaceted grape, it also has many regional French synonyms like Aubaine, Beaunois, and Chaudenay. Dinner party fact: Melon à Queue Rouge is a rare mutation of the grape that has a red stem.
