Podere Altero Bianco 2016
Toscana IGT, Italy

Sabrina (1954)
SUNDAY, MARCH 3 @ 08:00 PM (ET)

The perfumed elegance of this Italian white is matched by the enchanting presence of Audrey Hepburn in this romance from writer-director Billy Wilder. Sabrina was the young actress’s follow-up to her popular debut in Roman Holiday and here she draws the affections of two wealthy brothers, played by William Holden and Humphrey Bogart. It also marked the beginning of her relationship with French fashion designer Givenchy, who would provide her personal wardrobe (and many of her screen costumes) for the rest of her life.

Our customers can’t get enough of the Barbanera family’s world-class Tuscan wines, so we’re thrilled to bring you this exciting new white. Young star Sofia Barbanera crafted it in honor of her great-grandfather, Altero Barbanera, who founded the family winery in 1938. Boasting a coveted gold medal from Berliner Wein Trophy, it blends local Trebbiano and Malvasia with international Moscato and Chardonnay – all grown during Tuscany’s superb 2016 vintage. With its ripe peach, citrus fruit, and savory spice flavors, it’ll add a real spark to your next dinner party.

The Barbanera family have made delicious wines at their Tuscan estate since 1938. Today, siblings Marco, Paolo (Sofia’s dad), and Simona are at the helm, but a new generation is gearing up to one day take the reins. Sofia’s been under the tutelage of the Barbanera’s highly acclaimed winemaker, Mario Ercolino. He’s taught her everything he knows (including the techniques he uses to draw out maximum perfume and elegance from grapes).

WM_SofiaBarbaneraBirthplace of the Renaissance, and famed for its beautiful rolling hills, Tuscany has long been home to some of the most influential figures in the history of art and science. It’s also home to many of Italy’s top wines – including Chianti and Brunello di Montalcino. Though the region is best known for its gorgeous reds, it also produces a host of lovely, fresh whites that are definitely worth keeping on your radar.

fish_sardinesWhile you can absolutely sip this mouthwatering white all on its own (it will be a refreshing aperitif), like all great Italian wine, it’s made to be enjoyed with food. Sofia recommends it alongside fresh sardines, but baked white fish, grilled shrimp, or even creamy seafood pasta will be tasty too. You could also try it with roasted chicken, pork, and other white meats.
