Movie & Wine Pairing

Raymond Prodigal Collection Chardonnay 2016
North Coast, California

The Music Man (1962)
SATURDAY, JULY 4 @ 08:00 PM (ET)

What better to pair with a wine that sings than a crowd-pleasing musical? Robert Preston stars in a career defining role as Harold Hill, everyone’s favorite conman. Remembered for its great music including “76 Trombones,” the movie, like the wine, is a true charmer from start to finish.

Raymond Vineyards is “one of the iconic wineries of Napa,” writes top critic Robert Parker, so we can’t wait for you to taste their gorgeous Prodigal Collection Chardonnay. Star winemaker Stephanie Putnam (of Far Niente and Hess fame) selected the grapes from prime-sited North Coast vineyards and the excellent 2016 vintage. Back in the winery, she gently pressed whole clusters of grapes – a technique which extracts maximum flavor – then aged the wine for two months in French oak barrels. The final Chardonnay debuted to double-gold honors at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition and brims with ripe orchard fruit and creamy vanilla.

Though the name Torrontés is used to describe several distinct grape varieties in Spain, this Torrontés grape is unique to Argentina. And if Malbec is the country's King of Reds, Torrontés is surely its Queen of Whites. Critic Tom Cannavan writes: "Torrontés is a white wine grape that makes terrifically fragrant, perfumed-yet-rich, fruity wines with crisp acidity."

WM_StephaniePutnam_wJeanCharlesThe North Coast encompasses the counties of Napa, Sonoma, Lake, and Mendocino – where you’ll find California’s most famous vineyards (and some of the world’s most sought-after wines). One hundred miles long and 50 miles wide, the region was formed by colliding tectonic plates, volcanic activity, and changes in sea level. The resulting, diverse soil types are ideal for grape growing.

app_gougerecheesepuffsJean-Charles loves to experiment – particularly with food. Because of this wine’s food-friendly nature, you can experiment with it yourself at home. Serve this ripe Chardonnay with a plate of gougères (delicate French cheese puffs). It will also sing at dinner with classic roasted chicken (seasoned with citrus, rosemary, and garlic), pork tenderloin, or vegetarian casseroles.
