With this captivating red blend, pair Robert Altman’s monumental ode to country music, featuring as many terrific stars as there are grape varietals in this rulebreaking bottle. The huge cast includes Lily Tomlin, Keith Carradine, Geraldine Chaplin, Ronee Blakley, Henry Gibson and a host of others in a colorful and unforgettable series of stories that converge on the Music City. Enjoy rich flavors and a satisfying finish both on screen and in your glass.

There’s much more to California wine than Cabernet and Chardonnay – just ask Don Sebastiani & Sons’ winemaking duo, Rob McNeill and Greg Kitchens. In this rule-breaking red, they set out to showcase part of the bounty of California’s stellar 2013 vintage that so many wine fans may be missing out on. While they sought out some well-known grapes (e.g. Syrah, Merlot and Pinot Noir), they also added in several (very) rare ones like Mourvèdre, Tempranillo and Cabernet Pfeffer (we had to Google that ourselves!). Back in the winery, they lovingly melded the lot together to create a luxurious red that’s far greater than the sum of its parts.

Rich and full of character, Round the Blend is made for a really hearty meal (think barbecued beef ribs, meaty stews, or steaks) – but thanks to its silky texture and inviting flavor profile (ripe bramble and blackberry, with hints of violet and mocha), it’s also great sipped solo. Rob and Greg barrel aged a small portion of the blend, just to give everything an extra layer of toasty complexity.

Across California, growing conditions – cool Pacific breezes and hot, sunny afternoons – were at their apex in 2013, a year that’s being hailed as a fitting follow-up to the excellent 2012 vintage. “As charged as vintners are about the quality of 2012, many think 2013 is even stronger,” writes Wine Spectator’s James Laube. The fruit truly did ripen to perfection – as you’ll taste.

For centuries, European winemakers (most notably in Bordeaux) have made the world’s most food-friendly wines by blending different grapes together. Today, California’s blends are a quickly growing category – and also make for serious dinner party companions. Round the Blend will really come into its own with hearty meats, barbecue dishes, stews, or meaty pastas.
