Movie & Wine Pairing

TCM Classic Film Festival Chardonnay 2016
Pays d’Oc IGP, France

Woman of the Year (1942)

Screened at the 2018 TCM Classic Film Festival, George Stevens’ charming romantic comedy features the first pairing of Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy – one of the most beloved of all screen couples. They costar as feuding reporters who naturally fall head over heels for each other. With its warmth and wit, Woman of the Year is an ideal film to pair with a rich French Chardonnay.

The TCM Classic Film Festival honors the movies and talent that made Hollywood magic, with a handpicked selection of unforgettable films. Raise a glass to these masterpieces with this opulent southern French Chardonnay. Crafted by third-generation winemaker Didier Brenac (whose renowned estate happened to be founded during Hollywood’s Golden Age), it’s lightly oak aged and silky smooth. Savor this Chardonnay’s creamy, tropical-fruit flavors alongside good friends, a great film, and a delicious meal – see over for our favorite pairings.

Chardonnay is one of the world’s most popular white grapes. Its ability to adapt to different climates and soils makes it an appealing variety for winemakers to experiment with. The best-known (and most expensive) versions come from the vineyards of Chablis, Champagne, and Burgundy’s Côte d’Or. However, great-value Chardonnay can also be found in France’s sunny south – if you know just where to look.

GI_grapes_chard_JvineyardsFounded in 1932 by Louis Brenac (Didier’s grandfather), Domaine de Brenac lies in the Hérault Valley, near the 3,000-year-old town of Oppidum d’Enserune. This rugged and brushy landscape helps to impart enticing wild-herb notes to the wines (which Hugh Johnson has described as having “real local character, a strong French accent, and remarkably attractive prices”).

chkn_breastgrillmarksThis luscious southern French Chardonnay will delight alongside savory white meats. Our top pairings include oven-roasted turkey with all the trimmings and grilled chicken topped with a lemony sauce. Vegetarians can try it with creamy dishes like butternut squash ravioli or pumpkin soup. And, of course, feel free to enjoy a glass all on its own.
