The legendary Greta Garbo’s most financially successful film, this richly appointed melodrama tells the story of the notorious WWI spy who posed as a Parisian dancer. And Valcatrina is no different. Over the last three vintages, this gorgeous red has accumulated dozens of golds, 90+ point scores, and other international accolades. And, not to be outdone, the 2017 release has landed sporting three more gold medals, plus an impressive write-up in London’s Sunday Express: “Satisfying, ripe but well balanced ... beautiful fruit definition.”

Valcatrina was crafted by the talented Diogo Sepúlveda (inset), who’s worked at prestigious estates in Pomerol, Napa Valley, and Australia’s Barossa Valley. He carefully harvested the best Touriga Nacional (Portugal’s star grape that famously powers Port), Syrah, and Alicante Bouschet from Casa Santos Lima’s sun-drenched Alentejano vineyards. After patient aging in French and American oak barriques, this brims with rich red fruit and toasty spice notes.

In recent years, Portugal’s previously little-known boutiques have modernized, and are gaining acclaim for their topnotch wines.
