A Tavola! Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

California

Classic Movie Pairing

All About Eve (1950)

For a true cinematic feast, watch this Oscar-winning homage to the New York theater scene, full of delicious backstage drama (and backstabbing). Featuring what is arguably one of the greatest of all performances—Bette Davis as stage diva Margo Channing—the film charts the disruptions to her career when a doting fan (Anne Baxter) begins to infiltrate her life. Under the sensitive eye of writer-director Joe Mankiewicz, it’s a boisterous movie befitting a big, bold Cabernet Sauvignon. Fasten your seatbelts!

The Wine

Drink like Hollywood royalty with this barrel-aged Cabernet from the Sonoma estate of Academy Award winner (and wine buff) Francis Ford Coppola. Crafted by talented winemaker Corey Beck (below) with premium grapes from top sites in Monterey and Paso Robles, A Tavola! sports a history of gold-medal acclaim. Thanks to California’s stellar 2019 vintage, this new release boasts serious fruit ripeness and will be the star of your next Italian feast.

The Estate

As you’d expect from the man responsible for The Godfather Trilogy, Dracula and Apocalypse Now, a visit to Coppola is an epic experience. Beyond the world-class vineyards and winery, the property’s home to Rustic, an OpenTable.com ‘Diners’ Choice’ and one of America’s 100 Best Outdoor Dining Restaurants. You’ll also find pools, bocce courts, a film memorabilia gallery and the pièce de résistance: a pavilion inspired by the bandshell in The Godfather: Part II. It’s a top spot for live music, dancing, stargazing and more. Talk about the complete package!

The Winemaker

While the Coppola estate’s all about fun, their team’s just as devoted to quality in the cellar. Twenty-year veteran winemaker Corey Beck started his career as Cabernet cellar master at Napa’s storied Château Montelena, where he made wine from vines his grandfather (Montelena’s former vineyard manager) planted in the 1970s. Today, Corey is president and chief winemaker at the Coppola estate.

With Food

The phrase a tavola! (or, ‘to the table’) is a reference to the Coppola family tradition of big, boisterous Sunday dinners. At their table or yours, a red like this will be great with everything from salami and cheeses to hearty pastas and slow cooked meats. At Rustic, they serve their juicy Cabs with bistecca alla Fiorentina or classic braciole with rigatoni and meaty ragù.
