Abbesse Sauvignon Blanc 2024

France

Gigi (1958)

Zesty and refined, this Sauvignon Blanc captures the charm of a beloved musical. Leslie Caron delights as Gigi, a young Parisian girl coming of age in a world of elegance and expectation. Maurice Chevalier stars as Honoré Lachaille in a comeback role that returned him to the spotlight. And let’s not forget the city of Paris, which, thanks to director Vincente Minnelli, takes on a starring role of its own as it radiates cinematic magic. A true crowd-pleaser, the film earned nine Academy Awards including Best Picture.

Wine Flavor Profile

Abbesse Sauvignon Blanc is a light-bodied white wine with vibrant aromas and flavors of grassy citrus, ripe peach and lime. Crisp, dry and complex, it has a long finish.

In the Loire Valley, a region known for world-class whites like Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé, Abbesse Sauvignon Blanc stands out for its enchanting grassy-citrus aromas, lovely stone fruit palate and overall quality-to-price ratio.

It comes to us from winemaker Noël Bougrier, the latest generation to helm the celebrated estate of his family, who’ve made fine Sauvignon Blanc in the region since the mid 1880s. The wine is meant to honor the verve of Louise de Bourbon, a noblewoman, nun and norm-breaker extraordinaire who famously secured a rare papal dispensation to renovate her ancient abbey.

(A winged ‘L’ was her trademark—hence the bottle’s label.)

Refreshingly energetic and intriguingly complex, it offers leap-from-the-glass lime aromas that lead into a peachy keen, zippy palate. It’s a go-to aperitif that’s equally tasty served with its traditional (and delicious) companion, goat cheese.
