Berlico
Classic Movie Pairing
Silent Running (1972)What better to pair with an ecological thriller than an environmentally sustainable Barbera with seductive fruit and floral flavors? Douglas Trumbull's directorial debut stars Bruce Dern as a botanist aboard a space station preserving Earth's last forests. He finds himself making drastic decisions when corporate orders demand the forest destruction as cost-saving measures. Set in the then-futuristic year of 2008, this cult classic features groundbreaking special effects by Trumbull, who had worked on 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968). Though overshadowed by the decade's later blockbuster sci-fi, the film has earned a well-deserved following for its prescient message and Dern's touching performance.

Wine Flavor Profile
The Berlico Barbera wine has seductive floral and red fruit aromas, plus a juicy, silky palate brimming with dark berry flavor.
Rising star Samuele Ravina, known as “Berlico” to friends like us, studied winemaking under the legendary Paolo Sartirano. (If you’ve been our customer for a while, you probably recognize Paolo as the winemaker behind many of our best wines from Italy’s famous Piedmont region.) Now, Berlico is ready to show off his skills with his namesake red wine, Berlico Barbera 2021.
Because Berlico prides himself on sustainable winemaking, you can sip his signature red knowing that it’s been sustainably made from vineyard to bottle. Berlico chose Barbera grapes grown on vines up to 50 years old, which yield fruit with exceptionally concentrated flavors. He also late harvested some of the grapes, allowing them to “raisin” on the vine for even greater richness.
Then, Berlico took the fruit back to the Sartirano family’s estate to craft the wine. The estate, by the way, is itself Equalitas certified, meaning it’s environmentally, ethically and economically sustainable. After Berlico worked his magic, the final wine has seductive floral and red fruit aromas, plus a juicy, silky palate brimming with dark berry flavor.
