Mania, "The Flesh and the Fiends" (1961)

Mania (aka The Flesh and the Fiends) (1960). This bold Zinfandel, brimming with dark-fruit flavors, is a perfect match for the chilling tale inspired by Scotland’s infamous body snatchers. In this atmospheric thriller, Peter Cushing stars as Dr. Robert Knox, a surgeon whose quest for medical progress entangles him with two men willing to kill to deliver fresh cadavers. Known for his numerous roles in Hammer Horror films, Cushing brings gravitas to this often overlooked horror classic.

Wine Flavor Profile

Bendito Reserva is a full-bodied red wine with generous aromas and flavors of ripe red fruits and black cherry, framed by toasty-spice notes on the long finish.

When it comes to Cabernet, South America is setting the standard and emerging as a hotspot for some of the best. Bendito Reserva is a beautiful example, and comes to you from the hugely acclaimed Luis Felipe Edwards estate.

In Edinburgh during the 1820s, Dr. Robert Knox holds to the theory that nothing should stand in the way of science, not even a law stipulating that only the bodies of criminals hanged in prison may be used for medical research. Consequently, he scandalizes his more orthodox colleagues by dealing with grave robbers, in particular, two nefarious Irishmen named Burke and Hare. The two men eventually decide to obtain additional corpses by murdering unknown, drunken derelicts. But they over-reach themselves when they kill a prostitute, Mary Patterson, and her boyfriend, Chris, one of Dr. Knox's students. When the two fiends are arrested, Hare turns king's evidence to escape Burke's fate on the gallows. Upon his release, however, Hare is attacked by an angry mob who burn out his eyes as retribution for his crimes. Dr. Knox, cleared of complicity in the murders, finds himself despised by the people of Edinburgh, but he becomes a renowned lecturer.
