Bosman Pinot Gris 2020
Classic Movie Pairing
Dances with Wolves (1990)Like Bosman, this epic film celebrates the vitality of man and nature. Lieutenant John Dunbar (Kevin Costner) finds a new sense of purpose through his interactions with a Sioux tribe while stationed at a remote military outpost. In addition to winning numerous accolades, including Academy Awards for Best Picture and Director (also Costner), the film’s box office success and cultural impact breathed new life into the Western genre.
The Wine
When you think of Pinot Gris, places like Oregon or France’s Alsace probably come to mind. But this famous white grape also thrives in South Africa, as you’ll taste here. Crafted by the Bosman family (learn more below), this luscious, stone-fruited Pinot Gris hails from Wellington. The vines benefit from hot, sunny days that ripen grapes, along with cool mountain breezes that lock in freshness. Add in the Bosmans’ 300+ years of expertise, and you’ve got the perfect recipe for world-class Pinot Gris.
The Family
The Bosman family have been vine growers for eight generations. In the early 2000s, proprietor Petrus Bosman renovated the family’s 270-year-old cellar and reinvigorated their winemaking practice. Today, the Bosmans are renowned for their quality, ethically produced wines. They’ve given their employees a 26% stake in the business (to date, the largest land reform transaction in the history of South Africa’s wine industry), and they’ve even won the International Wine Challenge’s Fairtrade Trophy.
The Region
South Africa has the most beautiful vineyards of any region in the world – and her wines can be just as stunning. “The fine wines of South Africa deserve much more attention than they receive” (JancisRobinson.com). Well, we’re paying attention – in the last decade or so, the number of premium, boutique estates has increased greatly, providing the enthusiast with even more territory to explore.
With Food
The Bosman family’s lovely Pinot Gris is deliciously versatile – enjoy on its own or with a variety of foods. We suggest juicy white meats, such as grilled chicken breasts, roasted turkey, or pork chops. You could also pair it with creamy, white-sauced pastas (made with or without meat). For a lighter match, try summer salads, baked white fish, or soft cheeses.
