Campanula Pinot Grigio 2020
Classic Movie Pairing
A Star Is Born (1937)An up-and-coming actress—played here by Janet Gaynor—becomes a star thanks in part to her mentor and self-destructive love interest played by Fredric March. Maverick producer David O. Selznick shot the film in the new three-strip Technicolor process, and audiences are still dazzled today by the technological achievement and compelling showbiz storyline. Be equally dazzled by the vibrant fruit aromas and pure flavors in this Pinot Grigio.
THE WINE
Watch out, Italy. Hungary is also making world-class Pinot Grigio—and this crisp release from Gábor Laczkó is a perfect introduction. Campanula has a long history of outclassing pricier rivals at the industry’s most important competitions. (And it’s been a hit with our customers for just as long.) Decanter judges hailed a previous vintage as “fresh and clean on the palate, with a gentle fragrance of apple, citrus, and spring flowers.” And the 2020 edition sports a gold medal from Berliner Wine Trophy. Try serving it to Pinot Grigio fans and see if they can guess the country of origin!
THE WINEMAKER
Some people are born to make wine. Gábor Laczkó (below) is one of those people. After graduating from the University for Horticulture and Food in Budapest, he joined the Campanula estate as an apprentice winemaker and hasn’t looked back. During the last 10 years, he’s also worked in South Africa and France to master new techniques. He’s just the type of talent who’s helping to put Hungary on the fine wine map.
THE COUNTRY
Hungary offers some of the best quality and value in the world. Just ask leading wine critic Hugh Johnson, who helped found The Royal Tokaji Company, one of Hungary’s biggest, most important wine brands. Campanula was crafted from prime-sited vineyards on sunny, windswept plateaus, where the fast-draining, limestone-rich soil is ideal for growing fresh, ripe grapes.
WITH FOOD
In its spiritual home, northern Italy, versatile Pinot Grigio is paired with everything from fresh seafood to vegetarian risotto. In Hungary, locals might serve it with more traditional dishes like chicken paprikash, a creamy dish spiked with spicy paprika. Alternatively, this is a great bottle for a wine and cheese party. It’ll be delicious with tangy Gorgonzola, aged Gouda and more.
