Château Duprat 2020

Bordeaux AOC, France

Classic Movie Pairing

Doctor Zhivago (1965)

This well-known love story follows Yuri Andreyevich Zhivago (Omar Sharif) and Larissa Antipova (Julie Christie) as they fight to keep their relationship alive against the backdrop of the Russian Revolution. A cinematic tour de force, it was the first film to capture the turmoil of the Revolution in true and hectic detail. Epic in scope, it’s an excellent choice for this robust and velvety Merlot blend.

THE WINE

Our mission has always been to help you find delicious, great-value wines from small, quality-focused estates. Few wine regions offer more opportunity for discovery than France’s famed Bordeaux. Château Duprat is a classic blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon from prime-sited vineyards in the Entre-deux-Mers and the exceptional 2020 vintage (read more below). The previous release won a prestigious gold medal, and the 2020 edition is every bit as impressive. Look forward to velvety red fruit and spice flavors, with a fine structure that makes it perfect for enjoying alongside a meal.

THE VINTAGE

Recent years have been good to Bordeaux fans. A trio of three excellent vintages, concluding with 2020, has left many happy wine lovers in its wake. Critic James Suckling reports that 2020 offers “outstanding quality across all appellations.” The Drinks Business agrees: “Bordeaux 2020 is a truly exceptional, highly unique and utterly spectacular vintage.”

THE REGION

If you love Bordeaux, you’re in good company. Bordeaux.com reports that roughly 13 bottles of Bordeaux wines are purchased every second somewhere in the world (that’s over 400 million bottles a year!). Another big fan? Thomas Jefferson. After visiting this famous (and well-respected) region in 1787, he became an unofficial ambassador and helped increase exports to the United States.

WITH FOOD

Bordeaux blends like this one balance the best of Merlot and Cabernets Franc and Sauvignon to make a wine with ripe flavor, structured tannins and fresh acidity. In short: this is a red that’s meant to be enjoyed with a meal. Serve with a Sunday roast beef (or lamb), your favorite cut of steak or firm, aged cheeses like farmhouse Cheddar and Parmesan.
