This moving film about restless souls who conspire to round up a team of wild horses was directed by John Huston and also contains the last performance of screen legend Marilyn Monroe.
THE WINE
Often called “The King of Hollywood,” Clark Gable spent three decades of his acting career as a leading man. THE GRAPE
Wine enthusiasts and winemakers alike adore Chardonnay for its attractive, mouthfilling flavors and ability to grow well in a range of climates. It performs most majestically (and expensively) in the vineyards of Chablis and Côte d’Or in France’s storied Burgundy region, but it also thrives in California. Depending on the site (and the ambitions of the winemaker), it can be rich and buttery or refreshing and citrusy. This limited-edition release leans toward the latter style, but still has a creamy weight to it.
THE VINTAGE
Thanks to a near-perfect growing season, California is in for “another classic vintage,” and “growers and wineries say the 2019 vintage is looking pretty darn good” (wine-searcher.com). The vineyards received ample rain to replenish vines early in the season, followed by a warm, dry summer that extended the grapes’ ‘hang time’ on the vine, allowing the fruit to develop ripe, concentrated flavors.
WITH FOOD
With its beautifully fruit-forward flavor profile, this regal Chardonnay will make a delicious pre-dinner sipper. At meal time, pair it with grilled chicken (try a lime marinade to play up the citrus flavors in the wine), herbed pork tenderloin or other savory white meats.
