Classic Movie Pairing

Reap the Wild Wind (1942)

This rosé is a gem from the sunny Mediterranean coast. What better to pair with a costume drama brimming with romance and thrills on the high seas? John Wayne and Ray Milland vie for the love of Paulette Goddard in this Cecil B. DeMille classic about cutthroats who destroy ships for salvage. Have a glass while being transported away to the Florida Keys, 180 years ago.

The Wine

Our customers can’t get enough of rosé – especially when it’s crafted in the delicate Provençal style – so we’re thrilled to introduce this stunning new discovery. Named after the famous Mistral wind (which blows through southern France’s vineyards at over 200mph and keeps vines cool), Fleur du Mistral hails from talented winemaker Luc Tallaron, who has made wine in Bordeaux, Chile, and even Venezuela. He selected beautifully ripe Grenache and more from his vineyards, then treated the wine to a cool fermentation to lock in the vibrant strawberry and red apple flavors. A gorgeous Provence-style pink to enjoy all year round.

The Style

Fleur du Mistral is crafted from red grapes – Luc gave the fruit a gentle crush, followed by a period of maceration (where the clear juice mingles with the red skins, adding the desired amount of color, aroma, and flavor compounds). The longer the maceration period, the deeper the shade of pink. Like most Provençal rosé, this elegant gem has a pretty pale-pink hue.

The Region

Southern France’s Méditerranée region includes Provence (aka the world’s rosé capital) and part of the Rhône Valley. It’s an ideal place to make rosé – plentiful sunshine ripens grapes to perfection, while the cooling Mistral wind helps the fruit retain freshness. Méditerranée rosé is made in the same style and with the same grapes (mainly Grenache, Syrah, and Cinsault) as Provence pinks.

With Food

our a glass of this fine Provencestyle rosé and allow yourself to be transported to the sunny Mediterranean coast. At meal time, Fleur du Mistral will delight alongside fresh seafood dishes (Luc’s favorite pairing is grilled king prawns and roasted vegetables) or simple chicken salads. You could also save a bottle for Thanksgiving – rosé is incredibly tasty with oven-roasted turkey.
