Highway 253 Gewürztraminer 2019
Classic Movie Pairing
Thelma & Louise (1991)Highway 253 derives its name from the picturesque road winding through Northern California vineyards. Ridley Scott’s iconic road movie about two friends who find themselves on the wrong side of the law isn’t exactly a calm Sunday drive, but it is a truly memorable film that is enhanced by the remarkable performances of Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon in their respective, namesake roles. This Gewürztraminer makes for another unforgettable pairing as its vibrant flavors play nicely with the film’s taut action and rich drama.
The Wine
Fans of Gewürztraminer are pretty die-hard. Take a sip of this fresh exclusive, and you’ll see their devotion is well deserved. Highway 253 is named for a picturesque road that weaves through some of Northern California’s most famous vineyards, passing some top estates along the way. In fact, the wine is made for you by one of those premium producers (whom we’ve agreed not to name, in order to secure this exclusive price). Thanks to Mendocino County’s fabulous 2019 vintage, you’re in for explosive tropical fruit flavors.
The Grape
Though difficult to spell and say, Gewürztraminer (pronounced guh-voorts-truh-mee-ner) is easy to love. Originally from France’s Alsace region, this pink-skinned grape variety has found a happy home in California, as well as northern Italy, Germany, Hungary, Australia’s Clare Valley, and other cool-climate areas. It produces highly aromatic white wines, with trademark lychee and spice notes, that can range from bone-dry (like this fine example) to lusciously sweet.
