La Scelta di Sofia Toscana 2024

Itay

Trouble in Paradise (1932)

This white born of red grapes dazzles with intrigue. Bright but seductive, its bold profile mirrors the two suave con artists who meet their match in a Parisian heiress. Directed by Ernst Lubitsch and starring Miriam Hopkins, Herbert Marshall and Kay Francis, this pre-code gem sparkles with wit and innuendo. It remains a masterclass in elegance, chemistry and “the Lubitsch Touch.”

Wine Flavor Profile

La Scleta di Sofia is a light-bodied white wine with aromas of orange blossom, quince and red cherry. On the palate, it has bright, fresh minerality with similar notes of citrus and tart red cherry.

If you’re a fan of Italian reds, there’s a good chance you’ve tasted wines made from Sangiovese, the base of many Super Tuscans and the main grape of Chianti. La Scleta di Sofia is something totally unique—and super hard to find—made from that same variety: a white wine. It’s light bodied and balanced, with citrus and cherry flavors, and we can’t wait for you to try it.

The intriguing selection comes to us from Sofia Barbanera, the pioneering producer behind our hugely popular Saracosa range and the head winemaker at her family’s beautiful Tuscan estate, which has been releasing exceptional wines for over 80 years.

There, surrounded by some of the region’s most famous cellars, she works hard to create selections that are equally impressive. And knowing her fans’ love for Sangiovese, she decided to take the grape for a spin…with fantastic results.

She started by selecting a few key vineyard plots. Then, after harvest months later, she gave the grapes the gentlest pressing to separate the juice from the skins and other solids that provide color to the final bottling.

The finished wine retains the tart cherry hallmarks of typical red Sangiovese, with delightful quince and citrus tones layered in nicely. It’s deliciously different and ideal with risotto, seafood and chicken.
