Potter’s Bowl Sauvignon Blanc 2019
Classic Movie Pairing
The Palm Beach Story (1942)The zippy, crisp flavors in Potter’s Bowl serve as great companion to this screwball comedy from Preston Sturges. The film stars Claudette Colbert as the wife of Joel McCrea, who uses her looks and charms to try to finance her husband’s career ambitions. Rounding out this hilarious film are Mary Astor, Rudy Vallée, and an entertaining assortment of screen antics.
The Wine
Sauvignon Blanc is one of our most in-demand whites, and we’re thrilled to present this mouthwatering new exclusive from California’s excellent 2019 vintage. Named after the bowl-shaped Potter’s Valley, where the grapes were grown, Potter’s Bowl is an exhilarating Sauvignon Blanc that will delight on its own or with food. It offers vibrant citrus aromas, followed by a crisp, elegant palate brimming with guava and honeysuckle flavors. After you’ve enjoyed the wine, share your thoughts with an online review.
The Grape
Taking off in popularity in the last 30 years, Sauvignon Blanc has traveled a long way from its spiritual home in France’s Loire Valley. Most notably, it’s taken on new life in Marlborough, New Zealand (where it’s famous for intensely concentrated, grassy/citrus flavors) and in California (where it develops vibrant, tropical-fruit notes). It’s often favored as a crisper, more refreshing alternative to rich, oaky Chardonnays, and can offer more zippy, exhilarating character than Pinot Grigio.
The Region
Located in the northeastern reaches of Mendocino County, the Potter Valley became a certified wine region in 1983. The valley benefits from a dramatic diurnal temperature range, which creates a long growing season that allows grapes plenty of time to develop complex, concentrated flavors. Its cool climate and relatively high elevation makes it a haven for white grape varieties like Sauvignon Blanc.
With Food
Pour a well-chilled glass of this Sauvignon Blanc anytime you want a taste of California sunshine. It makes a lovely aperitif and is delicious with goat cheese, crudités, and other snacks. At meal time, it will shine alongside summer salads or seafood dishes. We particularly love baked tilapia or seared scallops in a lemon/ cream sauce (to play up the wine’s citrusy notes).
