RedHeads Harmonie Rox Chardonnay 2021
Classic Movie Pairing
Hair (1979)For a wine made in celebration of earthly harmony, pair the film adaptation of the landmark 1960s musical, which attempts to capture the free-spirited vibe of the hippie and anti-war movements. Czech director Miloš Forman had been a fan of the stage production, and the material’s youth-in-rebellion theme can be found throughout his career, from his early anti-Communist satires to Amadeus (1984). Indeed, one of this film’s pleasures is its young cast, including Treat Williams, Beverly D’Angelo and John Savage.
THE WINE
From the pioneering RedHeads Studio (learn more below), Harmonie Rox is a groovy NEW Chardonnay. The team sourced the grapes from local grower Jack Bursten and his renowned vineyard in the premium Coonawarra region, home to some of Australia’s finest wines. Fermented in part new French oak, it has a deliciously creamy/spicy complexity, balanced by vibrant stone fruit and citrus flavors. One sip and you’ll understand why Winestate magazine rated it 94 points.
THE STUDIO
Back in 2004, a small band of Australian winemaker —with day jobs at some of the country’s biggest, most prestigious wineries—set up a shed where they could moonlight after hours. Free from the demands of quantity-focused shareholders, they could handcraft the wines they wanted to make, in tiny batches. These boutique beauties caught on fast, selling out in shops and impressing critics. In fact, in the last three years alone, they’ve won four trophies and over 100 gold medals.
GREEN MACHINES
They may be RedHeads, but these guys are green, through and through. Between the top-notch irrigation system (whereby they recycle their own water!), solar panels, nature’s pollinators (honey bees) and more, the estate is 97% powered by self generated and stored renewable energy. No wonder they won a prestigious commendation at the 2020 Drinks Business Green Awards.
WITH FOOD
Harmonie Rox is named for its beautiful balance of depth and vibrancy, and that harmony carries through to its food-friendly nature. It’ll play well alongside grilled chicken, roasted turkey and other savory white meats. And it’s a happy partner for almost anything cheesy. Try a ham-and-cheese panini, homemade macaroni and cheese or a few slices of Brie.
