TCM Classic Film Festival Sauvignon Blanc 2021
Classic Movie Pairing
Casablanca (1942)The TCM Film Festival celebrates film legacies: stories told and retold over generations that have shaped our identities, shared culture and values. Screening at the festival in commemoration of Warner Bros.’ 100th anniversary, this romantic drama is one of the high points of the Hollywood studio system. Featuring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman as one of the most famous on- screen couples in cinema history, it’s a must-see for any classic movie fan. Enjoy with this crisp and refreshing Sauvignon Blanc.
THE WINE
The TCM Classic Film Festival honors the movies and talent that made Hollywood magic, with a handpicked selection of unforgettable films. Raise a glass to the silver screen with this crisp Sauvignon Blanc. It hails from Lodi, “one of the top wine regions in the country,” where winemakers “have quietly started producing some of the state’s best wines” (vinepair.com). You’re in for vibrant citrus notes, with delicious hints of yellow apple and ripe tropical fruit. Guaranteed to liven up any movie night with friends.
THE GRAPE
Taking off in popularity in the last 30 years, Sauvignon Blanc has traveled a long way from its spiritual home in France’s Loire Valley. Most notably, it’s taken on new life in Marlborough, New Zealand (where it’s famous for intensely concentrated, grassy/citrus flavors) and in California (where it develops vibrant tropical-fruit notes). It’s often favored as a crisper, more refreshing alternative to rich, oaky Chardonnays and can offer more zippy, exhilarating character than Pinot Grigio.
THE REGION
As Master of Wine Jancis Robinson says, “Lodi is a seriously interesting location for growing grapes.” Like Napa Valley, Lodi’s warm summer climate is tempered by occasional morning fog, which helps increase grapes’ ‘hang time’ on the vine, for extra-concentrated flavors. While it’s better known for Zinfandel, Lodi can also produce top Sauvignon Blanc with ripe tropical-fruit character.
WITH FOOD
Sauvignon Blanc’s classic match is goat cheese. Enjoy this lovely release with a simple spread of goat cheese and crackers, or alongside a salad topped with crumbled goat cheese. You could also pair it with seafood, from baked tilapia to sushi rolls. Chicken or pork dishes would be tasty, too. And, of course, it makes a delightfully refreshing aperitif.
