Ventopuro Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2020
Classic Movie Pairing
The Kennel Murder Case (1933)Based on a novel by S.S. Van Dine, this is one of four movies in which William Powell portrays the detective Philo Vance. The last in the series, it follows Vance as he investigates a murder at a Long Island dog show. Directed by Michael Curtiz, it also stars leading lady Mary Astor and sidekick Eugene Pallette. With its rich, full-bodied flavor and hints of fruit and floral notes, this multi-layered Cabernet Sauvignon perfectly complements the film’s complex and sophisticated plot.
THE WINE
Named for the coastal breezes of Chile, Ventopuro (“pure ocean winds”) comes from the heart of the Colchagua Valley, home to some of the country’s finest wines. And the team behind this elegant Cabernet Reserva is doing everything they can to preserve this special valley. They support a plastic recycling program (which inspired the sketches on the label), as well as reforestation projects. This Cabernet Reserva is downright delectable, too. It brims with ripe red fruit, plum and blueberry flavors, supported by delicate spice notes thanks to five months of luxurious oak aging.
THE REGION
Protected by the Atacama Desert to the north, the Andes to the east, the Pacific Ocean to the west and Antarctica to the south, Chile’s a true paradise for making wine. Decanter writes that “conditions in Chile produce a style of wine which displays the finesse and balance typical of Bordeaux.” The Colchagua Valley is the epicenter of great Chilean Cabernet, and has been hailed as “the new Napa Valley” by Wine Enthusiast.
THE GRAPE
Cabernet Sauvignon is the world’s most popular red, loved for its deep-colored, black currant-rich wines that are well suited to barrel aging. Most famously, it’s the variety that powers Bordeaux’s legendary First Growths like Château Lafite and Château Margaux. However, you’ll also find plenty of world-class examples in Chile, California and across other top winemaking countries.
WITH FOOD
Beef is the classic match for Cabernet Sauvignon. Enjoy this fine Reserva alongside Chilean beef dishes like empanadas or plateada, a pot roast made from the rib cap of a cut of beef. For something closer to home, go for juicy burgers or your favorite cut of steak. If you’re watching your red meat intake, try veggie fajitas, black bean enchiladas or vegetarian stews.
