Visionario 2020

Bianco Trevenezie IGT, Italy

Classic Movie Pairing

Bell, Book and Candle (1958)

After filming Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo together, Kim Novak again casts a spell on Jimmy Stewart—literally—in this romantic fantasy-comedy from Columbia Pictures. This film of love and witchcraft works across genres, just as this Italian white blends several different varietals to form the perfect, delicious bottle. This pairing will have you believing in magic.

THE WINE

When you want a glass of something cool and fresh, you can’t beat Friuli’s intensely aromatic, multi-varietal whites. And Alessandro Gallici’s hugely popular stunner is modeled after the region’s most famous, from Luigi Felluga (which, at $60+ a bottle, is also the priciest). Alessandro doesn’t just base his recipe on Luigi’s, he sources grapes from the same hallowed hill (where team Felluga has to buzz him in through the gates). You have insider access to the 2020 release, looking sharp with its sleek black label.

THE VISION

Alessandro has a passion for the unique white blends you only find in this part of Italy. For Visionario, he marries local and international grapes from Friuli and Venezie to make a tongue tingling, top-value wine. The Tocai Friuliano grape gives body; Sauvignon Blanc imparts green-fruit notes; late-harvested Gewürztraminer lends a subtle kiss of sweetness and Chardonnay adds ripe citrus flavors. The blend varies slightly each year, but there’s one constant: it’s always delicious.

THE REGION

Northern Italian locals describe their mountain-ringed vineyards as aria condizionata (‘air conditioned’). It’s easy to see why, as the cooling influence of the Alps and the Adriatic Sea are ideal for locking in fresh, pure fruit flavors. Trevenezie on the label means the grapes were sourced from different sites across the Venezie, which includes the Veneto, Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Trentino-Alto Adige.

WITH FOOD

With Visionario, it’s all up to you. Enjoy it by itself, or let it lead you from a pre-dinner gathering into a feast of mussels fra diavolo, grilled calamari, or herb-roasted branzino. Alessandro likes it with fresh shrimp platters or alongside a plate of aged Italian cheeses like Taleggio or Piave. Whatever you serve, try having some fun with your guests—see if anyone can guess the grapes!
